Production of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter began in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1995. The van was an innovation because of its vehicle class. The name Sprinter now stands for an entire genre of vehicles.

Originally, the Sprinter had Mercedes-Benz badging in Europe. The first generation North American Sprinter was launched in 2001 in the U.S. and was originally branded as a Freightliner. The rest of North America were badged as Mercedes-Benz until 2003 when they received Dodge branding. The Dodge Sprinter Wagon was designed with hauling passengers in mind.

Sprinter Engine

The Sprinter was configured the complete powertrain for performance. This incorporates low-friction rear axles, six-speed manual transmission with low-friction oil and further improvement of the seven-speed automatic transmission into 7G-TRONIC PLUS with ECO start/stop In North America, only the six-cylinders 3.0 L turbodiesel and 4 cylinders 2.1 L turbo diesel engines are offered. In the new Sprinter, the proven rear and all-wheel drives are supplemented by a front-wheel drive. Additionally, the optional nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Exhaust smoke can be a sign of problems in the engine or exhaust system of your Sprinter van. Once you notice smoke coming out of the exhaust, bring it down to Francisco’s for service. Ignoring the indications can lead to engine issues and can even lead to your vehicle breaking down.
