Keeping Cool this Summer

Summertime is here and it’s getting hot. Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Seal Beach might only be 90-degrees, but it seems like 100 degrees for us. Irvine, Westminster, Garden Grove, and some of the inner cities can get to 100 -110 degrees. If you go to the desert, it can get up to 120 degrees. Around here, your air conditioning might seem ok, on a hot day it might not seem that bad.

Having the proper charge is very important. Having the proper amount of refrigerant is very important. As little as 10% overcharge/ undercharge can send your compressor to an early grave. 10% undercharge can trap the oil in the evaporator. 10% overcharge can build too much head pressure so having the right amount is very important. Servicing your A/C correctly is very important. At Francisco’s Automotive we have 3 brand new machine (1 for the hybrid.) We have old machines we don’t trust them. The weight is very important.

They sell cans at Pep boys and Trek auto. How much do you add? You don’t know because you don’t know how much is in there and you cannot go by the gauges. The proper way to do it is to recover the refrigerant, replace Schrader valves, and attach the vacuum for an hour to remove the moisture. The moisture combine with refrigerants creates a chemical that can be bad for your system. Then you charge it up and add 1 oz. of oil. Yes, when you add refrigerant you lose a little bit of oil. Any questions call us at Francisco’s automotive repair in Huntington Beach been doing air conditioning since the 80’s.
